The ease of doing business with Government underpins the rationale of Supplies Branch, that is, the detailed specification and research into common user items, their specification, coding, advertisement, evaluation, award, contracting, excetra done under one roof, in a timely manner by dedicated professionals and leaving MDAs to access the end product at the touch of a button.
The ease with which MDA procurement teams can access Supplies Branch contracts gives them more time to focus their efforts better on budgeting, planning and undertaking the more specialized procurement of MDA specific core business activities and equipment.
It is not coincidental that the State Department of Public Works hosts this unique function, bearing in mind that SDPW is the consultant of Government in all building matters across the MDAs and that a large quantity of common user items by value constitutes plant, equipment and fixtures that accompany and occupy these buildings which must be aesthetically and physically sound, of high quality and value for money, and hold the high reputation of Government.
It is imperative at this point and time for MDA’s to take advantage of this dispensation and test the dexterity of Supplies Branch as Government proceeds eventually to regulate it as the only route to procurement of CUIs.
We owe it to the public to get them the best quality at the best price, and to the MDA’s to get the items expediently and conveniently.
I consider the Supplies Branch function as a key responsibility in my docket that will be undertaken with the highest priority.
The State Department of Public Works exists to ensure quality and fair cost for public buildings, goods works and services.
